Yosuke Ueno

Often while admiring other people’s creative endeavours I’m drawn to what I feel I lack in my own. So it’s to Yosuke Ueno and his creation of a unique and vibrant world that I’d like to direct your attention to. Seeming to take place in some fantasy realm of his own creation, it’s really the entire connected world seen throughout so much of his work that I really admire. So make yourself a cup of tea and take a browse, surely better than checking Facebook again!

Sheffield Window Display

As THIS video points out, Sheffield really is a “city on the move”. To continue that endeavour into more recent times, Sheffield City Council along with The Source have created a scheme in which unoccupied shop windows are used to display artwork by local artist. It’s a fantastic opportunity to display artwork in the centre of the city and one I couldn’t pass up.

It’s all just been taken down after three weeks on display and it has been a great way to get my work out there and generate some sales!

Massive thank you to everyone who helped get the display looking as good as it did!

Celluloid Screams

Well this update isn’t very up-to-date as it refers to a group show I helped organise back in October. Celluloid Screams is an annual horror film festival held here in Sheffield at the Showroom Cinema, and this year I co-curated an art exhibition to accompany the weekends activities. Featuring a collection of fantastic local talent the show was a big success with festival attendees taking in a wide selection of horror inspired work. Personally it was a chance for me to work on something different and I created two new pieces for the show, Poltergeist inspired “They’re Here” and a Vincent Price portrait. Hopefully an art exhibition will accompany future Celluloid Screams festivals so I best get thinking for next year!

Showroom Live Art 29/09/2011

To help celebrate the launch of the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls new 2012 calendar I provided some live art during the evening’s fun, the finished piece being raffled off. This time the event was at the Showroom Cinema here in Sheffield. Great crowd there on the night with a lot of people interested in the work I was doing. Always fun to do something from Rocky Horror too!

Art in the Gardens

At the beginning of the month I attended my first art fair as a market trader! The annual Art in the Gardens is held in the botanical gardens here in Sheffield and I was proud to set up shop for the weekend offering original canvases and prints. This was a great learning experience for me in setting up a stall and displaying my work (as well as restraining myself from the exuberant market stall calls of “get yer art prints here...”). It was great to get so much positive feedback from people and I seemed to strike a particular chord with dads who appeared to perk up at the sight of Star Wars references.Managed to sell some prints too!

All in all a great weekend and a big thanks to my parents for helping out so much.

Cirque Du Slay Poster

Another poster for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls. As is often the case with the themed title of the bout events, the poster needs to fit that style. This time I wanted to reference the busy layout of vintage circus posters. It’s a good job I’ve got so many themed fonts - jog on Times New Roman, you’re not needed anymore.
