If you’re out searching for a thirst quenching beverage in Sheffield this month, look no further than a pint of Amber’s Nectar. The Sheffield Steel Rollergirls have teamed up with local brewery Blue Bee to produce a special beer that will be available in a selection of free houses in Sheffield during April. I was kindly invited to join the rollergirl on their visit to help brew Amber’s Nectar and it was great to see the processes involved (as well as the complimentary beer(s)!)Labels: Roller Derby, SSRG

In preparation for their upcoming bout this Saturday I present the all new logo for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls. The design started with a desire for the text to be able to exist as a standalone graphic rather than the previous integrated layout. It was also a chance to toughen up Amber a bit and make her look like she would take out your Jammer without hesitation! Labels: logo, Roller Derby, SSRG

To help celebrate the launch of the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls new 2012 calendar I provided some live art during the evening’s fun, the finished piece being raffled off. This time the event was at the Showroom Cinema here in Sheffield. Great crowd there on the night with a lot of people interested in the work I was doing. Always fun to do something from Rocky Horror too!

Another poster for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls. As is often the case with the themed title of the bout events, the poster needs to fit that style. This time I wanted to reference the busy layout of vintage circus posters. It’s a good job I’ve got so many themed fonts - jog on Times New Roman, you’re not needed anymore.Labels: Poster, Roller Derby, SSRG

Another poster design for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls (they do keep me busy!). This time a classic B Movie theme was the order of the day. After tackling new ground with The Thing digital piece, I felt confident to attempt the required cityscape scene that any self respecting monster movie poster requires. I tried to work in a few Sheffield landmarks and realised that painting buildings (more specifically the windows) is a real time consumer but it really needs that detail to sell the sense of scale of the giant brides. I’m still working on interesting lighting techniques so this was a chance to under light the brides with the raging fire below. A big thank you to Reynold Brown and others (many of whom went uncredited) for their amazing poster art of the 40s and 50s.

With the upcoming home bout of the Sheffield Steel Roller Girls I was asked to design the poster (I’d done their previous one) this time the theme being “Tarzan and Pain”. I always like the challenge provided by these posters as I often have to come up with original poses and characters. Posting this I realised I’d not posted a previous poster for a fundraiser in November – so now you can check out my version of a Pink Lady.

Some more work for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls. This is a festive version of the logo I created for the team earlier last year. I thought rather than just stick a santa hat on her, I'd paint some tone and shade to change it from the flat vector of the team logo and make it more appealing for the front of a Christmas card.

Great to see my logo design for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls on some merchandise! Here it is on a regular T but at the recent Sheffield bout I caught it plastered on hoodies and vest tops too! Really pleased with how this turned out, I guess a nice clean vector makes for a good screen print!

Some more design work for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls. This time for their debut bout here in Sheffield; the appropriately named Smashdance. Obviously had the original 1983 Flashdance poster for inspiration. As advertised, Saturday the 24th of July is a date to mark in your calendar, tickets available HERE.

I've designed a few posters for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls in the past and was asked to design their new logo. Went for a classic pin-up update of the previous version and added a tattoo banner. It was a nice change working on a full vector project, still a slightly foreign environment (node wrestling ahoy!) . The rollergirls call her Amber and she's soon to be printed on various merchandise.
