Another fun night at SOYO! Finished this piece in about 2 1/2 hours. I really wanted to recapture the bold composition and colour of the first She-Ra live art piece I did a few weeks back so I went with another forward facing female portrait. This weeks inspiration (probably the loosest reference to a movie I've done so far) was Carrie. This was also the first time I'd used some grey tone pastels for some of the shading on the face - its a great quick way of putting down some smooth shade.
Well my first group exhibition is finally under way! Massive thanks to Geo Law for the opportunity to take part in the 'Child's Play' exhibition currently on display at The Forum in Sheffield. It's great to be hanging side be side with some of Sheffield's finest artists and illustrators and I'm really pleased with how my work turned out. Working under the title 'Child's Play', I wanted to capture some of the shared memories of our childhood and hoped to remind people of a couple of 80's legends! The two pieces submitted were much larger than previous work and I really responded to the increase in size so I plan to work on this scale in the future.
The opening night was a great opportunity to finally meet those artists I've been aware of for so long and have a chat about art and life in Sheffield. Free beers too!
Another great experience at SOYO working along side Beards! Went for a simpler design than the previous week and it didn't take nearly as long to complete (under 2 hours I think). I think it's lacking the colour of last week to make it really stand out though but its all still learning to see what works under the restraints of the night. Got a few ideas for future work so I best get sketching!
Fantastic experience last night at SOYO! My first experience with producing a finished piece during one night - I was really pleased with the outcome and it was great to work alongside Beards Illustration. Big thanks to Matt @ Soyo for inviting me to take part. I was inspired by all my planning for the upcoming Child's Play exhibition at The Forum.
I've designed a few posters for the Sheffield Steel Rollergirls in the past and was asked to design their new logo. Went for a classic pin-up update of the previous version and added a tattoo banner. It was a nice change working on a full vector project, still a slightly foreign environment (node wrestling ahoy!) . The rollergirls call her Amber and she's soon to be printed on various merchandise.
My entry for the SOYO Live competition to design a poster for their Monday nights. Enjoyed the SIC design so much I wanted to continue the theme here with another skull. Just found out that there will be some online voting to pick the winner via Facebook soon so I'll post a link when its up. Mute
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL! Here's to a creative year. Just thought I'd get back into it with a quick sketch - as always; Photoshop and a wacom. Did originally plan on shading the hair too but it fulfilled its purpose in getting me drawing so its onto the next canvas.
